Tips for Adopting a Pet

The Grand Estates Woodland is proud to be a pet-friendly apartment community here in Magnolia, TX. If you’re considering adopting a pet, read this week’s blog for some things to keep in mind during the process.

Consider the grand scope. If you’re considering a new addition to your home, ask yourself if you’re ready for the commitment that comes with having a pet. They require care and consideration for up to 10 to 15 years for dogs and 20 years for cats, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ article on pet adoption tips. Be aware that this commitment includes a financial, an emotional, and a physical one. It’s not for everyone, but if you decide it is for you, it could definitely be worth the investment!

Find the right match for your personality and lifestyle. ASPCA also points out that you should consider these commitments, space restrictions, and the amount of time spent at home when choosing a match. Some pets are pretty low-maintenance from the start. Some don’t require as much care after a while of adapting to a schedule as what they needed at the beginning of a new home. Ask the experts at a shelter for advice according to what works best for you.

The Southern Star Farmers & Artisans Market and Dog Adoption Fair is a perfect opportunity to find help. Each month of the year, on the second and fourth Sundays from noon to 4 pm at the Southern Star Brewery, you can find a dog adoption fair from the Montgomery county animal shelter. Also there you can find kids’ interactive games and activities, local market vendors, and Q&A sessions with a professional dog trainer.

Consider the animal’s habits. While you’re on the lookout for a new friend, be observant. We allow two pets per household, so if you already have a pet, ask about a prospective pet’s habits around people and other animals. Consider bringing along your other pet to see how they interact. Keep in mind that we do not have a weight limit for pets in our apartments, but aggressive breeds with a bite history are prohibited. See our pet policy or contact our management for details.

A pet’s habits include a range of activity levels, too. The Grand Estates Woodland is a great spot for even the most active pets. We have a dog park for your pet to stay active and healthy at. While you’re considering your pet’s physical health, remember that our apartment community is just minutes from Animal Hospital of the Woodlands. Our community offers you convenient resources for adopting and keeping a pet in an apartment.
